Dept. of Information Systems Engineering
Creating a "super-smart society" with the power of computer science and applied information systems
Achieving a "super-smart society" that utilizes AI will require more than AI technology; a variety of underlying technologies will need to be established, and integrated into complete systems. This department provides specialized education in AI, robotics, IoT (Internet of Things), monozukuri, underlying technologies such as integrated circuits, and information systems that integrate these things, with the aim of accelerating the advent of a "super-smart society."¡¡
Features of the educational curriculum and methods
Studies on computer science and applied information systems that create a rich information environment
Along with the dramatic spread of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and IoT technologies in recent years, today we are unquestionably moving toward an era of informatization. Accordingly, the importance of computer science and information systems design technology is growing more than ever, and the cultivation of highly creative human resources in the information field capable of flexibly coping with changing times is becoming a pressing need. At the same time, the current development of information systems is rapidly advancing and frameworks are becoming increasingly complex and varied. Achieving advanced information systems requires various computer sciences and system technologies, such as networks, imaging, signal processing, AI, measuring sensors, and systems design/control, as well as technologies that integrate and sublimate them. It is crucial that developers and researchers engaged in information systems not only fully understand basic matters in the information and communication field, but also possess the ability to take a comprehensive view of the whole.
Therefore, education in the Department of Information Systems Engineering is characterized by a focus on cultivating engineers who can cope with changing times in information technology by (1) fully understanding basic knowledge of elemental technologies in computer sciences and the information and communication field, and (2) completely comprehending the essence of computer sciences and information/communication technologies.
Based on the above perspective, first-year students in this department take courses to gain knowledge of mathematics/natural science, which are the basics in engineering, and acquire global communication skills. From the second year, students learn a wide range of basic knowledge in computer science and information and communication engineering, and study the essentials of information expression, processing, and transmission. Information technology is indispensable in the arenas of humanity, society, and the environment, and as an engineer it is important to possess a global viewpoint. To meet these societal needs, class subjects are being established that cover a broad range of academic areas, from social sciences/humanities to environmental engineering. In the fourth year, students tackle graduation research as an overall summary of their studies and gain the ability to solve problems on their own. There are 2 areas of education research in this department, as noted below.
£¨£±£© Computer science, which covers information security/communication networks, AI, and system/signal processing that forms the foundation of data analysis
£¨£²£© Applied information systems, which is the core of software development, sensor and information measuring, and integrated circuit design
¡¡These areas of education research will excite the interest of students as they envision the field in which they want to work and consider a method for choosing a field of study.
